Free Fajitas!!!!

Hello last weekend.
We started it off on friday with our regular Donnelly Group Happy Hour, this week at Cinema. About 7 of us went to go cheer on Jannik Hansen, in hopes of winning free beer.  While we waited, we enjoyed lots of happy hour beers :)

On saturday, Nacho, Rahgen and I added some more passport stamps, from The Teahouse.

We all started with the Roasted Roma Tomato Soup with goat cheese.  Nacho had the Slow Cooked Beef Bourguignon Vol au Vent as his entree, and us ladies had the Brome Lake Duck Confit with fig demi-glace.  We all agreed how amazing the duck was!  Super tender, and not fatty at all.  For dessert we had the Duo of Lemon and Chocolate Tarts which was very tiny, but very tasty.

After brunch, we headed over to the museum of anthopology, where I saw lots of fun statues.  They also had a nude exhibit.  My favorite, was a picture of a statue posted below, of the man with the woman.

Finally, we wrapped up our saturday at Las Margaritas, where I enjoyed my free fajitas and bull dog drink that I won in a boxing bet last summer.  Apparently, my choice usually wins.  Maybe I should bet more often.

Edible Canada - 3rd dine out Vancouver dinner

Third Dine Out Vancouver of 2013!

Ken and I went to Edible Canada for our 3rd DOVF dinner with Nacho and his date.  The first thing that I noticed was that every single draft beer was the same price for a pitcher!  This was great, so Ken and I started with a pitcher of Fat Tug IPA.

For our appys, the ladies each had the spice rubbed albacore tuna belly, and the boys had kettle ridge veal bone marrow with bacon.

When it came time for our mains, the boys had the grangeland leg of elk, Rahgen had the coast mountain mushroom tarte with fried hens egg, and I had the Canadian east coast fish pie with oceanwise seafood..  We also had the in between cheese course which was a chevre with brioche french toast.

We wrapped it up with some granville island tea company chai brulee, and some warm chocolate brownies.

I really enjoyed that they focused on local, organic seasonal ingredients - and had the most unique menu I had seen in a while.

Yew - second DOVF of 2013

Second Dine Out Vancouver of 2013 at Yew in the Four Seasons!

I had never been to Yew before, even though I have stayed in the Four Seasons a few times before.  I must say, I was completely blown away by the service and food!

We went on a sunday, which meant all bottles of wine were 50% off!  Ken chose the bottle of Riesling, and we recieved the best complimentary bread ever - smoked salmon scones, and sea salt rosemary.  This was the best complimentary bread I have ever had.

For our appys, Ken had the seared scallops with cranberry, blueberry and balsamic preserve.  I had the albacore tuna sashimi.  Both were very delicate, the way seafood should be, and carefully prepared.

For our mains, Ken had the beef tenderloin with lobster mash and seared foie gras.  I had the lobster and saffron risotto.  It was Kens first time trying foie gras, and he really enjoyed it, along with his perfectly cooked steak.  My risotto was to die for.  I had never tried saffron with lobster before, and it was a perfect pair.

Lastly, we ended with a nanaimo bar, and an upside down apple and quince cake.  We were extremely full, because we wanted to eat it all - little did we know, that they would also provide us with take home breakfast power cookies!  It was perfect, because all we could do, was think about Yew the next morning.

Establishment - DOV dinner #1

First dinner of Dine Out Vancouver 2013!

Ken and I started off our DOVF dinners on opening night at Establishment, and dined on an amazing 3 course meal from chef Bongo.

We both started with Bongos famous African Peanut soup, and Ken followed with the Bison striploin with Juniper Berries.  I had the White Miso Black Cod in a Sake, Coconut, Kaffir Lime broth.  I loved my fish, and had to fight to finish it, as Ken wanted to wat it all.  After our entrees, we shared some tasty rich desserts - the Tripple Chocolate Mousse Cake, and the NY Cheesecake.  I cant wait to come back!

Happy Valley Seafood

New local dim sum place!

I havent gone for dim sum in quite a long time, so when a coworker suggested we try a place super close to work, I jumped on it.  We ordered assorted seafood congee, jellyfish with beef shank slices, DF squid with peppery salt, shrimp on braised tofu, steamed radish cake, and steam prawn dumplings with asparagus.

It was my first time trying jellyfish and I absolutely loved it!  I also really enjoyed the seafood congee and the squid.

Happy Birthday to Cheri & Yura - Celebrated at Afghan Horseman

It was our first time at Afghan Horseman, and I've been wanting to go for a while since I heard its super romantic, and I love daybeds filled with pillows.  We relaxed, enjoyed some Belly Dancing, and ate, oh.. and also waited like an hour for our food.

We ordered the Horseman Platter that comes wth an appy platter to start.  Appetizer of Humus & Sabzi Mast, Salata with Feta Cheese, and Whole Wheat Pita Bread.  I was so happy that my salad did not have olives!  How I hate olives.

Then we got our main - Boneless Chicken Shish Kebab, Lamb Shish Kebab, Lamb Shoulder, Baked Rice, Baked Eggplant, Dolmah (cabbage roll), Pakawra (batter fried potatoes), & Chaka (sour cream & yogurt dip)

My fave's have got to be the baked eggplant, and chicken.  The cabbage roll was so boring.  It was only filled with baked rice (which we had plenty of on the dish).  Ken ate all the lamb.

Our friends ordered the Kebab platter that came with Chicken Shish Kebab, Lamb Shish Kebab, Beef Shish Kebab, Lamb Shoulder, served with sauteed onions in vinegar, Salata (minced salad), Pakawra (batter fried potatoes), Chaka (sour cream & yogurt dip), &l Pita Bread.

We had a wonderful night, filled with great friends, and onion bowls.

Act like you’ve been here before, smile less and dress up more

Thursdays at Bimini!

I literally just found out about how awesome Thursday nights at Bimini are 1 week ago.  Nacho & I were looking for a fun happy hour place & hit them up for $6 wings and beer.. BUT they also have $2 beers all day long!  Aside from playing Foosball.. and me horribly loosing, but enjoying $2 beers.. I was glad to find a great new Donnelly Group place on thursdays.

So, come this week when Ken & I were looking for a place... I knew I wanted a Bimini date!  Ken ordered the Turkey Sandwich with their soup of the day (oxtail with orzo) and I had the Chicken & Waffle Sandwich (which I had tried at The Calling prior) with yam fries.  Of course we had a few $2 beers while at it.  We definately found the spot to be in Vancouver on thursdays!  Cant wait to be regulars.

May all your Christmases be white

Jorges going away partay.. and Seymour slopes.

My dear amigo Jorge is moving to Colombia to become a Dr.  Im going to miss him dearly :(
So we had our last happy hour with Jorge til he comes back and visits us!!!

We went to Cinema for $6 wings and beer, and also ordered a few other things.

My friend La Dura got their fish and chips since she doesnt eat meat, and we also got some nachos for the table.

Afterwards we headed over to Redroom to dance the night away to latin night.

Next day, Ken & I hit up Seymour where we barely got up.  They stopped every car to make sure they had snow tires and chains.  So glad we took his car & not my prelude, and there is no way it would have made it up.  Clearly you can see we had a LOT of snow.  Note to self - next time bring goggles.
